Pokhara

Pokhara, "the gateway to the Himalayas" is a very popular destination for people from all over the world. It is well known for the beauty of its Pewa Lake and the mountains of Annapurna, Dhaulaghiri and  the -Fishtail-mountain- Machhapuchhare. It is also a very famous trekking area and the starting point for some of the most famous treks in Nepal. You just want to make a short trek or a day trip? There is a great choice of possibilities for you too.

Pokhara is situated about 200 km west of Kathmandu. Altitude 900 m. There are three different parts in Pokhara: The old Town: Mahendra Phul, Pardi in the south (where the airport is situated) and the most famous part: Lakeside.

Because of the very mild climate there is a great variety in vegetation in Pokhara. Banana plants, Orchids, Bougainville and Cactus can be found. Rice from Pokhara valley is famous for its taste. For more information check the "Climate" chapter.

Because of the travelling time from Kathmandu to Pokhara it is not possible to travel to Pokhara on your day of arrival or the other way around. We strongly advice you to stay the first and last night of your trip in Kathmandu. By car the trip will take about 6 hours. A flight will take half an hour.

Highlights
  • Relaxing in Lakeside area
